I'm a veggie girl / creative collager / doodling, journaling, poet-at-heart who creates zines from recycled things.
Inspired by a deep love of nature, vibrant color, old maps, vintage books and papers, plus fabulous found freebies, I find joy in assembling handmade, heartfelt, playful ART. Connecting and sharing with other mail artists fuels my passion and gives me great happiness!
I first discovered zines in December 2015 at a visit to Isotope Comics in San Francisco. I fell completely in LOVE with this medium for art / expression and made my first teeny-tiny mini zine that night back at our hotel. Right from the start, my creation has been named after edamame! (As a vegetarian for 25+ years, my family calls me the Bean Queen. :) I daydreamed for years about zine-making, but finally got the catalyst I needed after attending a mail art class / show at the Percolator in Lawrence, Kansas called "Pushing the Envelope." There I saw hundreds of examples of phenom mail art from all over the world and it lit a FIRE under me to create! My creative process is organic - I start with a spark (an image, poem, intriguing article I've read, etc.) and often don't know exactly where I'm going with the message of the zine until I'm deep into creating. I assemble a double-sided collage on found paper, layering pieces and following the color scheme that emerges as the elements come together. Handwritten text, lots o' doodles, and a deeper, overarching question are common threads of my work. I then photocopy, cut, and fold into a little magaZINE that fits perfectly in the palm of your hand. Out into the mail it goes! I'm having so much fun - I hope you enjoy! xo, Edamameg |
